PGT Window Replacement: The Sarasota Owner’s Guide

PGT window replacement in Sarasota typically runs $350 to $900 per window installed, depending on the series, glass package, and whether the frame needs full replacement or just the sash. We stock PGT-compatible parts on our trucks and can usually swap a failed unit the same day we arrive. Most Sarasota homeowners discover the problem the way you did: a window that won’t seal tight after a storm, glass that’s fogged between the panes, or a latch that finally snapped after twenty years of salt air doing its quiet work.

If you’ve got a PGT window that’s failed, you already know the frustration. The good news is that PGT builds their windows to be serviced, not scrapped. The bad news is that most parts counters will sell you whatever’s close and call it good. That’s not how we work.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s Florida lineup breaks into a few lines you’ve probably seen on your own house: WinGuard (their impact-rated line, and the most common in Sarasota), Spectrum (vinyl, mid-tier, often on homes west of the Trail), EZ-Breathe, and the older ClassicVue and 2000 Series that predate the current naming. We replace parts across all of them.

The part you need depends on what failed. Window replacement for a PGT unit usually means one of four things: a sash replacement (the moving panel with glass already set), a balance replacement (the tension mechanism that keeps the sash from slamming), a latch or lock replacement, or a seal/weatherstripping replacement. Getting the right part starts with the code etched in the corner of the glass, usually near one of the spacers. That code tells you the glass package, the series, and the plant it came from. If the etching is gone, we measure the sash profile and match it against PGT’s extrusion specs. Sarasota homes near the water often have a specific corrosion-resistant balance and stainless hardware package, and we order for that environment, not for an inland house in Georgia.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: PGT changed their balance shoe design around 2015, and the old and new parts do not interchange. If you’ve got a pre-2015 WinGuard, an aftermarket “universal” balance will bind inside a year. We stock the correct OEM profile and a quality equivalent for both generations. TruePane is an independent service provider and not affiliated with PGT. We do, however, install and service their windows alongside CGI, CWS, and ES Windows, which means we can be straight about what’s worth paying OEM prices for and what isn’t.

Signs Your PGT Window Replacement Is Failing

  • Condensation between the glass panes. The seal has failed and the argon or krypton fill is gone. The window still works structurally, but the insulating value is done and it will never clear up on its own.
  • The sash drops when you let go, or takes two hands to lift. That’s a balance failure. In Sarasota’s humidity, the coil springs inside vinyl balances corrode faster than the manufacturer’s average lifespan suggests, especially on second-story windows that catch full sun.
  • The latch won’t catch, or catches but pops open under pressure. On PGT impact windows, the multi-point lock engages at three points. If one point is worn or bent from a hard close after a storm, the whole mechanism sits out of alignment and the window never seals properly.
  • You can feel a draft or see daylight at the meeting rail. The interlock between upper and lower sash is worn or the weatherstripping has compressed past its useful life. In a Sarasota August, that draft is your electric bill leaving the house.
  • The window won’t open or close without fighting it. This is usually a misaligned frame from thermal expansion or a settling foundation, and sometimes it is a warped sash. Either way, forcing it breaks hardware, and replacement hardware on a forced window rarely seats right.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what PGT window replacement runs installed in Sarasota, based on the jobs we do most weeks:

Part or Service Installed Price Range
Single sash replacement (WinGuard, standard glass) $350-$550
Single sash replacement (impact-rated, laminated glass) $500-$900
Balance replacement (per window, both sides) $180-$300
Multi-point lock / latch replacement $120-$250
Full frame replacement (window, not just part) $900-$2,400+

The spread comes down to glass package, frame material, and whether your opening is standard or needs re-shimming. We quote the part and the labor separately on paper, so you see exactly what the manufacturer charges and exactly what we charge to put it in right. That may not be the cheapest line item in Sarasota, but it is the one with no surprises. Every window replacement we do carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise, and we register both manufacturer warranty layers in writing before the truck leaves your driveway.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a window latch or weatherstripping on a PGT is doable for a careful homeowner with the right part. Replacing a balance is not. Window balances are under high spring tension, and a slipped tool or a mis-set shoe can send a heavy sash down on fingers or send the balance mechanism through the wall. If the fix requires touching anything tension-loaded, call us at (941) 214-2069. That warning isn’t there to scare you into a service call. It is there because we have repaired enough DIY balance jobs to know what a Friday night emergency looks like. Dale Kessler grew up in a glass shop and has set more sashes than he can count, and our rule is simple: if it involves tension or tempered glass, let a tech who carries the right tools and the right insurance handle it. You can check the etch code, take photos of the hardware, and tighten a loose screw. Past that, let us take it from there.

"Eleven windows replaced in two days. The crew chief, Marcus, showed me the level on every single frame before they caulked it. My wife noticed the street noise was gone before I did."

RRonald P.
★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★

"Quote was the price, which after three other bids that grew legs was worth something. Double-hungs went in clean, they hauled the old ones, and the registration paperwork for the warranty came in the mail like they said."

DDorothy K.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"French doors to the patio, custom size because this house was built in 1961 and nothing is standard. Measured twice, three weeks to fabricate like they warned, and the install day they laid runners over my floors without being asked."
